Managing Scenes and Automations in EasyHub

Updated over 2 months ago

The Scene & Automation page of the EasyHub Portal empowers property managers to create intelligent automations and manage scenes tailored to specific property needs. By using features like device linking, rule creation, and unit binding, you can enhance energy efficiency, security, and overall guest experience.

Overview: Why Use Scene & Automation?

The Scene & Automation feature allows you to:

  • Save energy by automating device behavior based on unit status (e.g., Vacant, Occupied).

  • Enhance security through automated rules for cameras and sensors.

  • Improve guest comfort by pre-setting property conditions for arrivals.

  • Manage multiple units efficiently with the Bind Units function.

Accessing the Scene & Automation Page

  1. Log in to the EasyHub portal.

  2. From the left navigation menu, select Devices > Scene & Automation.

  3. The dashboard displays existing templates, their linked units, scenes, and automation rules.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Creating a New Template

Templates are the foundation for setting up automations and scenes. Follow these steps to create one:

  1. On the Scene & Automation page, click Create a Template.

  2. In the Add Template popup:

    • Enter a unique Template Name.

    • (Optional) Add Notes to describe the purpose of the template.

  3. Click OK to save the template. Your template will now appear in the list.

Step 2: Adding Devices to the Template

Devices must be linked to a template to include them in automation rules or scenes.

  1. Open the desired template by clicking its name.

  2. Under the Device section, click Add Device.

  3. In the Add Device popup:

    • Browse the device categories (e.g., Door Lock, Thermostat).

    • Select the specific device(s) you want to add.

    • (Optional) Rename devices for easy identification.

  4. Click OK to finalize your selection.

Step 3: Creating an Automation Rule

Automation rules define how devices behave based on specific conditions.

  1. In the template, navigate to the Automation section.

  2. Click Create an Automation.

  3. In the Edit Automation popup:

    • Name: Enter a descriptive name for the rule.

    • Effective Period: Choose active days and set a time range (e.g., 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM).

    • Conditions: Add conditions to trigger the rule, such as:

      • Unit state (Vacant, Occupied, To Be Cleaned).

      • Environmental conditions detected by sensors.

    • Actions: Define actions for devices, such as:

      • Setting the thermostat temperature.

      • Activating or deactivating a camera.

  4. Choose the execution type:

    • ANY conditions trigger actions.

    • ALL conditions must be met to trigger actions.

  5. Click OK to save the rule.

Step 4: Creating Scenes

Scenes allow you to group multiple actions for simultaneous execution.

  1. In the template, navigate to the Scene section.

  2. Click Create a Scene.

  3. Define actions for devices (e.g., turning off all lights, locking all doors).

  4. Save the scene by clicking OK.

Step 5: Binding Automation to Units

The Bind Units function applies templates to specific properties.

  1. Open the template and navigate to the Bind Units tab.

  2. Click Bind Units.

  3. Select units from the list or use filters to narrow down options.

  4. Confirm your selection and click OK. The automation is now active for the chosen units.

Examples of Use Cases

1. Energy Efficiency

  • Scenario: When a unit is vacant, increase the thermostat to 76°F to reduce energy consumption.

  • Setup:

    • Condition: Unit state is Vacant.

    • Action: Set thermostat to 76°F.

2. Security Protocol

  • Scenario: If a camera detects motion after 10 PM, send an alert and record footage.

  • Setup:

    • Condition: Motion detected by camera.

    • Action: Trigger recording and send notification.

3. Guest Comfort

  • Scenario: Automatically lower the thermostat to 72°F when a guest checks in.

  • Setup:

    • Condition: Unit state is Occupied.

    • Action: Set thermostat to 72°F.

Troubleshooting and Tips

  • Device Not Linking: Ensure the device is powered on and within range of the gateway.

  • Automation Not Triggering: Verify that the conditions and effective period are correctly configured.

  • Template Changes Not Applying: Re-bind the template to ensure updates are pushed to units.
